Unpermalinked comments.

Even worse than the fucking annoying comments in popups (oi! MT! sort it!).

Someone makes a good comment about something in a thirty deep comment tree, and there's no way to anchor it.

Sheesh.

As inspired by the Charlie Stross comment deep in the comments on this entry.

And yes, nielsenhayden.com uses comment popups despite inlining comments in the individual entry archives.

GRARGH.

neuroblog / Movable Moan: "Moan, moan, moan, you're aaaalways complainin' ..." </montypython> ergo, sorted: link to instead of the silly javascript popup for "make a comment / see comments on this post" links, and use <$MTCommentID pad="1"$> to capture, create and href permalinks for...

In response to the trackback:

Yes, of course, I shouldn't moan without fixing it. However, I've removed popups on my site. There's not much I can do for other sites, though, except noting that yes, this annoys me.

Hopefully eventually more people will notice, and MT will finally change their default templates.

See also Jeremy Zawodny's entry about rebuilding, to get around Trackback popups.

I also hope TypePad has its much-vaunted integral comments in a standard page, not a popup.

Why repeat the historical pattern of comments popups when it grew from Blogger's limitations?

Oh dear, this is getting quite long, isn't it?

jerakeen:

It's a good rant. I hate popup windows for these things, mostly because my browser isn't smart enough to realise that it's a pop-up window, and can occasionally save that size/position as the default for new windows. _that's_ annoying.

Uh, hello? This is 2lmc.org/spool. We moan. And anyway, how the hell are we supposed to hack 5 billion numpties using MT the wrong way in order to fix it? Sheesh.
