High on Blogdex et al.

BUT ITUNES IS THE APPLICATION NOT THE FUCKING MUSIC STORE.

THE MUSIC STORE IS NOT THE FUCKING APPLICATION.

THANK YOU.

jerakeen:

Ok, now that blech is done ranting, I'll do the requisite 'jesus this is stupid' stuff.

hitherto:

They should have called it Apple Music Store, not iTunes Music Store. They didn't bet on the confusedness of the general public.

jerakeen:

ok, he's not done yet.

blech:

I'm done.

jerakeen:

ok. Good. GAAAAAAHHHHHH

Ok, the core point seems to be that this isn't actually a huge revolution, and that artists are still getting screwed, and all the power is still with the big record companies.

Um. Duh.

Of course it's not a major change. what are you, stupid? Something like your proposal there (the 'we can do so much better' sidebar) would NOT EVER GET ANY SUPPORT FROM THE PEOPLE WHO OWN THE MUSIC COPYRIGHT.

It's a big change in that it exists on line _at all. 5 years ago, this sort of thing would have been unheard-of. Now there's half a dozen companies frantically bandwaggon chasing.

Wait another 5 years, maybe we'll be closer. But, gosh, the music companies are huge monolithic corporate slow things, and aren't going to completely change their business models overnight.

Quarter Life Crisis / zzzip: John Gruber follows up on his recent article on plumbing. More good points in there. A nice take at Apple's iTunes site, via 2lmc. Also a discussion on bzip2...
