10.2.8 and Applications/ idiocy

I moved Apple's own apps out of Applications and into subfolders precisely once. Then Apple Mail left a skeletal, broken version of itself lying around.

I very quickly learnt that, despite the fact it's relatively easy and sane for Apple's installer to look for where an app is, it's too much to expect them to do it, so I've modified my behaviour, and instead of my neat, deep Mac OS applications folder, I have a horribly flat, wide one for Mac OS X.

sigh.

This rant isn't new.

Kind of via Sci-fi Hi-fi, musing on life as a blogger at Apple.

hitherto:

I actually kind of do what one of the comments on that piece suggests - I have a separate folder of aliases categorised into folders by type. And then I look at /Applications as litle as possible, because it's a disgusting mess.

I got into creating my tree-o-aliases so I could have a nice menu for Maxmenus
