This is true, but what's also true is something Yoz noted yesterday; Mac OS X software often seems to require the latest release.
Presumably this is largely an artefact of the way Project Builder / Xcode work, but even so, it does leave you at something of a disadvantage if you don't upgrade.
An odd flipside is that it's really hard to get older software to work on new machines.
We need to use 10.1 for a project at work, and I'm a little worried the "old" G4s that work are buying won't run it.
I know jerakeen's iBook won't run 10.2.0; the video card only seems to be properly supported under 10.2.2+ or so.
