The replacements for Routemasters seem to have a slight hitch.
Namely, they flame up. Really.
See also the Evening Standard's coverage.
One of the few bits of the Shagger Norris platform I actually support is that he wants to retain Routemasters.
Somehow I suspect TfL's hands are tied by various safety regulations.
See also Jonathan Glancey on the Routemaster.

In which case, their platform is tied to an emotive issue which they'll ultimately be powerless to change. Ooh. I'm realy tempted to vote for that. Shows a real grasp of practicality, that does.

[Wed morning] Well, seems like they're taking bendy buses off the streets.
It seems to be messing up a lot of bus routes, too. Sigh.
Interesting little footnote to that; a number 19 Routemaster caught fire today in Islington, apparently.
Seems a bit odd, then, that Routemasters have this reputation for not having problems with fire, when I remember a no 73 going up on TCR a year or so ago.
It's still not as bad as the bendy buses, though.
We hate you all. Yes, especially you. Sod off and DIE
