Apple should switch

Not, as usual, from PPC to x86, but from ObjC to Java.

My immediate instinct - the benchmark is flawed in some way.

My second thought - I don't actualy care. All the Objective C apps I've seen kick the pants off the Java stuff I've seen on this platform.

Both Objective C and Java are supported development languages for Cocoa (mostly)

So if java was better and faster, you'd expect to see lots of cutting-edge, fast apps written in it. And I don't.

andym points out that System Preferences used to be in Java.

True to Apple's "we eat our own dog food" motto, System Preferences was a Java application (using the Cocoa API) in DP4. Unfortunately, it was also one of the slowest launching applications on the system due to the overhead of loading the VM.

Of course, things have probably changed since then, but when you've been burnt once, why mess with the oven?
