New iPods to be announced on Monday

OK, so that news is fairly old, and on blogdex, and stuff.

Our super-secret blogreading squirrel friends have turned up this, though:

A Newsweek front cover, complete with a picture of the new iPod.

It looks a lot like the old iPod, except for the fact that the scrollwheel contains the four buttons again, just like the mini iPod.

Also, oddly, the default menu seems to have "Shuffle Songs" and "Music" on it, rather than "Playlists" and "Browse" (hmm, did people get confused by that?)

More at Macteens, via Random Walks.

[30 minutes later] OK, so we might not have been that quick to the punch.

[Sunday evening] Newsweek also has descriptions and prices for the new iPod range.

Price cuts (wonder how that'll shake out in the UK; the mini came in at £180 in the end, not the £200 some people were suspecting, so a further UK price drop would be nice).l

No bigger HD, but that's fine; 40G really is generous. Better battery life, although that's never bitten me.

Even my nearly two-year-old iPod lasted fine on a couple of recent transatlantic flights.

Oddly, they say that the new system needs less thumbing, but surely Music will have Browse and Playlists submenus, so it'll be one more click?

I suppose I'll have to wait for the inevitable movies on Apple's site after the official announcement.
