In the 'real world', where I like to live, it does.
google are therefore breaking things.
So why are the vast majority of opinions I see on this 'yay, now people will fix their APIs'? Idiots.
Plus, the spec says, GET 'SHOULD NOT' change things. Not 'MUST NOT'. Bah, humans.

(later) ok, more thoughts. What the hell is a 'side-effect'? Surely all get requests have side-effects - they put a line in my access logs. Enough GETs and my server drive will fill, and it'll fall over. Does that count?
How about my referrer page, which is on the web. A GET request to my server will change a publically-accessible page. Is that a side-effect?
