Of course, the way Apple [ab]uses URI schemes was in the news a lot last year, with the help: security vulnerability.
For example, here's Daring Fireball on disabling 'help' and 'disk' handlers.
I suppose the fact that all these pseudo-protocols only work on Macs (or, occasionally (see: itms) on Windows), but that they're referenced generally, would annoy people.
The Launch Services docs seem a bit sparse on that aspect of dapp binding.
